I've taken a liking to electronic tunes of late. I know there are the main tenets - house, trance, techno etc. that such tracks are supposedly categorized under, but I never knew the distinct difference between these and the sub-sections beneath these labels (Think: Progressive trance, acid house, electro.... ).
Until I pranced to this site:
http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/
Key Learning Points
- Many Mambo Jambo songs sound alot like Italo Trance, while Bananarama could be labelled Eurodance. The author labels this 'the undisputed king of creative cheese' i.e. cheesy dance music that is far from annoying.
- Fash music: Funky House , Electro, Electro Funk...
- Many of Lady Gaga's songs sound pretty much like Disco House
- Happy House - You'll be happy to know that the once-upon-a-time 'Ayee ayee aye, I'm a little butterfly / green black and blue make the colours in the sky' falls into this category!
- Techno Dance comprises of tracks that would typically make it to the Top 40 charts: tracks like 'The Power' by Trap! or 'Everybody Dance Now' by C&C Music Factory.
- Even though the writer may bitch about how Dream Trance marks the pussification of trance, I do like 'Dream Trance' a lot! The writer would label the well-known track 'Children' by Robert Miles under this category. The writer feels that Trance should not have tune. I beg to differ!
- Ibiza (Balearic) Trance, Anthem Trance and Electro will make it to my list of top favourites!
