Hallyu wave revisited

Once upon a time, I was hooked unto korean drama serials, mainly because of the good looking artistes and sappy songs that instantaneously play each time a teardrop becomes visible. I’ve come to realize how repetitive these storylines have become (will elaborate some other time), and have since stopped watching them.

In my pursuit for all things Korean, I started to learn the language. This also had to do with the fact that I have tutored two korean kiddies and they’re the most amazing people I’ve met, seriously. And then I even dated a korean guy. Time passed, some things hold through more than others and due to time constraints I stopped learning Korean. Having said that, I still love the language, and would love to continue pursuing it, if only I had the time. I’m just not too sure about the men.

On the other hand, my 50-something year old mum has just caught on the wave! Now we have KBS and Arirang subscribed on our cable tv. My mum surfs through blogs and forum pages on korean artistes’ gossip, watches fan-made youtube videos of her favourite stars and is up to date with the most recent korean dramas on air. Way to go!

I hate mosquitoes

I don’t know what bit me two weeks ago when I met up with LeeSH at Istana Park for a drink. Some ‘thing’ bit the meat on my legs and what followed were days of scratching and scarring.
Whatever was our dear lord thinking when he allowed mosquitoes, cockroaches and ants to come into existence? I see no other reason but one – to torture us human beings.

Now I can’t wear skirts until my scars subside

Media-Savvy

Did a shoot for an article with Arena in March all thanks to Veek who linked me up with his writer-friend. The pic didn’t turn out the bestest, but at least I had some control over what was being written about me.
This one’s better – travel article put together by my pal, Mr Tan Yihui! This was featured in Life! earlier this year.

Welcome back!

I have, for the longest time, recognized my inability to upkeep a blog (for long). Blogs are high maintenance, and perhaps even unnecessary when you have avenues such as facebook, twitter, msn tags even, for self-expression and to tell the world about your life. But every now and then, I miss the unadulterated multi-purpose blog space that allows for prose, poetry, music, lyrics, video embedding and pictures etc… like a plain canvas that allows for art to be presented via an array of mediums.

And so, where does my l-i-f-e take me? In a nutshell, I like my job – arbeit macht frei. My work ’sets me free’ because the stuff I dabble in are engaging, energy-sapping and pretty fast-paced. Having said that, I shall abstain from blogging about work.

And what does my work ’set me free’ from? The essence of ‘wait’, slow-moving time, fleeting existence of hopes and voids that perhaps only a special few can fill. I’ve definitely found myself in music – playing the piano, the guitar and singing along – all make my day. Jamming with my brother (or anyone else for that matter) is an activity I could indulge in forever, before the onset of blisters and a hoarse voice set in. I’ve taken to writing some songs as well!

And yes there’s been some partying and drinking over the weekends, but these ‘wild sessions’ for me come in seasons. Currently, I’m feeling non-wild and would choose a hearty meal with close friends over alcohol and dancing in a club.

Goodnight folks! Till then.
